Leading with Compassion, Educating with Purpose
Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients across acute and subacute units—including gerontology, medical/surgical, urology, and my specialty, renal care. I’ve been deeply moved by the patients and their families that i’ve supported during times of loss and transition. These moments continue to shape who I am as a nurse and remind me why I lead with compassion.
I believe that kindness, presence, and clear communication can be just as healing as any intervention. These values are the foundation of my nursing practice and guide how I educate, lead, and advocate for both patients and peers. I’m passionate about teaching and I love supporting my nursing colleagues. Though I no longer work in a formal hospital educator role, I continue to facilitate learning in the clinical settings and through professional development. Staying current, engaged, and reflective in my own learning keeps my practice strong—and fuels my drive to advocate for high standards in patient care.
Beyond the bedside, I actively advocate for nursing standards and quality patient care through my involvement with professional organizations. I’ve served on committees here in Manitoba with ARNM, CRNM, and as a former local union vice president, I’ve been proud to champion nurses’ voices and help shape the future of our profession. Equally important is ensuring that the public continues to trust and value the care nurses provide.
This ePortfolio reflects my journey as I pursue my Master’s in Nursing (MN). It’s a space to share evidence-based insights, graduate school artefacts, personal reflections, and my professional experiences.
Through my blog, I hope to connect with colleagues, inspire fellow nurses, and contribute to shaping the future of nursing—especially as we navigate today’s challenges, including workforce shortages. I welcome connection with students, educators, healthcare organizations, and fellow nurses—whether seasoned professionals or those just beginning their careers.
